The 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) came to a thrilling end on Saturday at the Moi International Sports Centre, with Morocco edging Madagascar 3-2 in a pulsating final to claim their historic third title.

C. F. Manohantsoa gave Madagascar an early lead in the 9th minute, but Morocco responded swiftly through Youssef Mehri. Oussama Lamlaoui then struck twice—one before halftime and another late in the game—to seal victory for the Atlas Lions, despite T. N. Rakotondraibe’s second-half equalizer for the Malagasy side.

• The win means Morocco has now lifted the CHAN trophy three times in the last eight years, having previously triumphed in 2018 and 2020.

Prize Money

Morocco’s triumph did not only come with glory but also with financial rewards. The North Africans bagged $3.5 million in prize money for finishing as champions. Madagascar, who stunned many with their gallant run to the final, walked away with the silver medal and $1.2 million.
