Minister of Defence Visits Plateau State Over Killings as Cleric Raises Genocide Alarm.

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, on Saturday visited Plateau State following a wave of deadly attacks in Zikke community, located in Bassa Local Government Area. The visit is part of a condolence mission and an on-the-ground assessment of the affected areas.

The minister landed at Yakubu Gowon Airport, Heipang, and was received by Maj Gen Folusho Oyinlola, General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation Safe Haven, along with other top security officials, including Rtd Brig Gen Gakji Shipi, who serves as Special Assistant to the Governor on Security.

The visit comes amid rising concerns over escalating violence in the state, with prominent Northern Christian cleric, Isa El-Buba, describing the situation as an ongoing genocide.

Speaking during an interview on Inside Sources with Laolu Akande on Channels TV, the Jos-based cleric alleged that foreign Fulani terrorists, in collaboration with some local elements, are orchestrating targeted attacks on indigenous communities.

“These are not the local herders we used to know,” El-Buba said. “These are terrorists who come in from outside, invade communities, and receive inside information from some locals.”

El-Buba echoed Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s recent claim that the sustained attacks in Plateau amount to genocide, citing the coordinated and strategic nature of the violence as proof of an attempt to alter the region’s demographic and territorial identity.

He called on the federal government and international community to intervene before the situation spirals further out of control.
