New AC Milan signing, Luka Modric, has opened up on the real reason behind his move from Real Madrid to the Serie A giants.

The Croatian midfield maestro recently completed a sensational switch to AC Milan after leaving Real Madrid following their Club World Cup exit. Modric, 38, has signed a one-year contract with Milan and will wear the No. 14 jersey for the upcoming season.

Explaining his decision, Modric said he wanted to stay in Europe and continue playing competitive football.

“Why AC Milan? I wanted to stay in Europe, continue playing at the highest level,” Modric told MadridXtra.

“I had other offers, but when Milan approached me, the choice was clear. From the first moment, I was excited.

“They even came to Croatia to present their project, which impressed me a lot. That was very important for my decision. AC Milan is one of the biggest clubs in Europe.”
