The Oyo State Government has revealed it has paid ₦5 billion out of the ₦8 billion agreed for the complete takeover of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho, from Osun State.
Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, made this known in a statement on Monday, affirming the state’s commitment to fulfilling the agreement reached with Osun on November 20, 2020. The deal officially transferred full ownership of the institution to Oyo State.
According to Oyelade, the Makinde-led administration has been making annual payments of ₦1 billion and is expected to complete the ₦8 billion payment by 2027, the end of Governor Seyi Makinde’s tenure.
From Conflict to Growth
He noted that from 2007 to 2019, the joint ownership of LAUTECH by Oyo and Osun states was marred by frequent disputes. However, Governor Makinde successfully negotiated a peaceful transfer of ownership shortly after assuming office.

“Since Oyo State became the sole owner of LAUTECH, the university has witnessed remarkable growth in infrastructure, academic output, and reputation — reclaiming its status as Nigeria’s best state university,” the Commissioner said.
Expansion and Development in Iseyin
Prince Oyelade further revealed that Governor Makinde recently approved a ₦1 billion payment to Osun State and an additional ₦650 million as a take-off grant for LAUTECH’s Teaching and Research Farm at its Iseyin Campus.
He added that the state government has begun simultaneous development projects, including road networks and health centres at LAUTECH’s Iseyin campus, the Abiola Ajimobi Technical University in Ibadan, and the Emmanuel Alayande University of Education in Oyo.
