Lamido Gives PDP 10-Day Ultimatum to Resolve Ibadan Convention Crisis, Calls for Caretaker Committee.

Former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has issued a 10-day ultimatum to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to resolve internal disputes and dissolve the Ibadan Elective Convention, urging the immediate formation of a Caretaker Committee to steer the party ahead of upcoming primaries.

Speaking at his Sharada office in Kano while receiving hundreds of his supporters—including former local government chairmen, commissioners, and other appointees from his administration—Lamido expressed concern over the party’s internal divisions. He lamented that the ongoing crises within the PDP were being wrongly attributed to him, adding that outsiders had “captured the party,” sidelining its original members.

  • “I want the Court not to insist that I must get the leadership of the party, but to sustain its legacy and protect my fundamental rights, which have been undermined,” Lamido said. He noted that Damagun and Anyawu remain the party leaders until their tenure ends on December 8, 2025, but stressed that without proper leadership, the future of party members contesting elections or holding positions could be at risk.

Lamido urged all leaders, including Wike, Damagun, and others, to set aside differences and allow the establishment of a Caretaker Committee. He called for a joint meeting to deliberate carefully on the party’s affairs and restore it to its rightful position. “I ask my followers to remain calm until December 8 and observe how matters unfold,” he said.

The former governor also convened an emergency meeting with top PDP stakeholders from Jigawa and Kano amid growing concerns over the party’s internal crisis. The meeting, held behind closed doors, followed appeals from the Forum of Former PDP Local Government Chairmen in Jigawa, which warned that the party was being consumed by a “deepening internal crisis” and criticized the national leadership for sidelining Lamido and blocking his bid for National Chairman.

  • “The national leadership has not only sidelined Sule Lamido but has also blocked him from contesting for the position of National Chairman. This kind of leadership style is tearing the party apart,” the Forum stated. They highlighted that longstanding divisions, distrust, and unresolved disputes are weakening the PDP nationwide and threatening its electoral prospects.

Observers note that tensions have intensified following controversial congresses and confrontations, including a recent clash between Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja. Many within the party now believe urgent intervention is necessary. “If something is not done now, we may see a major shift that will reshape the PDP,” a party source said.

Lamido’s ultimatum and emergency meeting signal a decisive push to restructure the PDP in Jigawa and beyond, with potential implications for the party’s national direction and cohesion ahead of future elections.
