Lagos, Nigeria –
The Lagos State Government has officially denied involvement in the alleged demolition of a property owned by the brother of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
Obi had claimed on Thursday that a property belonging to his younger brother’s company in Ikeja, Lagos, was demolished without legal backing, allegedly by unknown individuals acting on a questionable court judgment.
According to Obi, the building had stood for over 15 years before it was taken down without any mention of the company, the property, or an official demolition order.
“This morning, my youngest brother called me frantically, informing me that a group of people had invaded his company property in Ikeja, Lagos, and were demolishing the building,” Obi stated.
Lagos Government Responds: No State Agency Involved
Reacting to the allegations, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, described Obi’s statements as “unverified and misleading.”
“The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), or any other arm of the state government, did not carry out the said demolition,” Omotoso clarified in an official statement issued Thursday.
He emphasized that the state government was committed to due process, law, and order, and expressed concern that a respected national figure would make such allegations without confirming the facts.

Also speaking on the issue, Dr. Olajide Abiodun Babatunde, the Special Adviser on eGIS and Urban Development, who oversees LASBCA, confirmed that the agency had no involvement in the incident.
Government Orders Investigation
To uncover the true circumstances surrounding the demolition, Omotoso revealed that the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Urban Development, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki has been directed to launch a full investigation through LASBCA.
- “We assure the public that if any unauthorized demolition has occurred, the individuals responsible will be held accountable,” Omotoso said.
The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its stance against lawlessness and urged the public to rely on verified information.
