Lagos Issues Flood Warning as Excess Rainfall Expected in 2025 Rainy Season.

The Lagos State Government has warned residents to prepare for above-normal rainfall and potential flooding as the 2025 rainy season is expected to last longer than usual, extending until early December.

Speaking at the Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) press briefing in Alausa, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, revealed that the rainy season will begin in late March and extend until December, with an annual rainfall prediction of 1,936mm, exceeding the 1991–2020 average.

The forecast is based on the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO), which will influence rainfall patterns for the first six to eight months of the year.
