The Labour Party (LP) has suspended six top-ranking members, including Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, and Senator Ireti Kingibe, over alleged anti-party activities. This move follows the recommendations of a five-member disciplinary panel set up by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) on May 2, 2025.
In an official statement released on Wednesday and signed by the Labour Party National Secretary, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the party announced that the suspension is indefinite and takes immediate effect. The affected members are barred from all Labour Party activities nationwide.
Full List of Suspended Labour Party Members:
- Dr. Alex Otti – Governor, Abia State
- Senator Ireti Kingibe
- Senator Darlington Nwokocha
- Hon. Victor Afam Ogene
- Hon. Amobi Ogah
- Hon. Seyi Sowunmi
According to the Labour Party, the disciplinary committee, headed by Deputy National Chairman Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, submitted its findings to the NEC, which then ratified the suspension in line with the party’s constitution.
Labour Party Denies Nenadi Usman’s Membership
The statement also addressed the controversy surrounding Nenadi Usman, clarifying that she is not a registered member of the Labour Party. The party described her as merely a supporter of its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, under the Obidient Movement.
“She is not a member of our party, and as such, we will not dignify her with any sanction,” the statement read.
The Labour Party further accused Usman of lacking the moral credibility to speak on corruption issues, citing her alleged EFCC plea bargain, asset forfeitures, and questioning her ownership of media properties and businesses both within and outside Nigeria.
Labour Party Rejects 2027 Election Coalition Talks
In a firm political declaration, the Labour Party stated it will not enter into any coalition or merger ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We will contest the 2027 elections as a standalone party. There will be no further discussions about political alliances or mergers,” the party emphasized.
