The management of Federal Polytechnic, Idah, Kogi State, has officially banned the popular sign-out ceremony traditionally held by students after graduation or semester examinations.
This announcement was made in a statement released on Tuesday by the Dean of Student Affairs, F.E. Omagu, and circulated to newsmen in Idah.
Why the Ban Was Imposed
According to the polytechnic, the decision was prompted by the unruly and disruptive behaviours often displayed by students and their guests during such celebrations. The management described these activities as “unacceptable and embarrassing to the institution’s image.”
The statement emphasized that any defiance of the directive would attract strict disciplinary action.
- “The ban on the so-called sign-out ceremony by students, such as shirt-signing, pouring of water, spraying of money, unruly motorcycle or vehicle riding, abnormal noise, and inappropriate jubilation within the campus or its environs by the management still stands,” the statement read.
- “Any attempt by students or their so-called guests to violate this ban will be met with appropriate sanctions.”
Past Incidents of Violence
Management noted that similar ceremonies in previous years have led to violence, destruction of property, and disturbances that disrupted academic and administrative activities, painting the school in a negative light.
