Just In: Portable Remanded in Kwara Prison Over Failure to Meet Bail Conditions.

Street-pop singer Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has been remanded in the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, following his failure to meet the strict bail conditions imposed by an Upper Area Court.

Portable, famous for his breakout hit “Zazoo Zeh”, appeared in court on Monday to answer charges of criminal defamation brought against him by Fuji legend Saheed Osupa. The controversial artist was granted bail of ₦1 million, but the conditions required two sureties—one of whom must be either the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN). The other must be a property owner within a Government Reserved Area (GRA) in Ilorin, with a valid Certificate of Occupancy (C of O).

Defamation Allegations Against Portable

The case, filed under FIR 117(1) CPC by the State Intelligence Department of the Kwara State Police Command, stems from a petition submitted by Saheed Osupa on March 21, 2025.

According to the petition, Portable allegedly made defamatory remarks in an Instagram live broadcast, accusing Osupa of envy and sabotage. In the now-viral video, the singer said:

“This man dey try bring down my shine! He be like person wey dey chop snail with shell—him no get sense. Osupa carry tortoise for stomach. When Apple Music and Spotify want to drop money for me, na him remove my song from the platform, make I no see money.”

Osupa described the statements as damaging, inciting, and capable of disturbing public peace, prompting law enforcement to take immediate action.

Police Statement on Portable’s Arrest

Kwara State Police spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the arrest, stating that the petition listed several serious charges, including:

  • Criminal defamation
  • Threat to life
  • Incitement to violence
  • Character assassination
  • Use of offensive language
  • Conduct likely to cause public unrest

The police secured an arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court in Ilorin and executed the operation in Abeokuta, Ogun State, at 7:25 PM on Sunday, April 13, 2025. Portable was taken into custody and transported to Ilorin for further investigation.
