Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called for the immediate removal of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, accusing him of unprofessional conduct and political partisanship that allegedly threatens peace and stability in the state.
In a statement released by his spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor expressed outrage over the police commissioner’s alleged directive to withdraw officers from the Independence Day celebrations at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, just hours before the event. Yusuf described the move as an act of sabotage and a violation of the police’s constitutional duty, insisting that CP Bakori’s continued stay in office poses a security risk to Kano.
The governor further alleged that the police commissioner is aligned with political opponents, branding him a “political police officer” undermining democracy and the will of the Kano people. He urged President Bola Tinubu to direct the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to immediately remove Bakori and replace him with a neutral, competent officer who would restore public trust in the police.

This development comes just two days after CP Bakori announced the arrest of 105 suspects linked to 30 major crimes, with large recoveries of weapons and stolen property in September.
While the Nigeria Police Force has yet to officially respond to the governor’s allegations, Kano Police spokesman SP Abdullahi Kiyawa told The Nation that he would address the matter in due course.
Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and commended other security agencies for their cooperation in maintaining peace in the state.
