Retired Navy Captain Omoniyi Caleb Olubolade, a former Military Administrator of Bayelsa State, has passed away at the age of 70. The respected elder statesman, who hailed from Ipoti-Ekiti in Ekiti State, died on Sunday, May 11, 2025, in Apapa, Lagos.
Olubolade, who celebrated his 70th birthday on November 30, 2024, reportedly slumped while playing lawn tennis at a nearby sports facility. According to a family statement signed by his daughter, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Akinadewo, and son, Mr. Dayo Olubolade, he had driven himself to the court for an evening session when the tragic incident occurred.
“He slumped while playing lawn tennis. Efforts by medical officers at the venue to revive him proved unsuccessful. He was rushed to Obisesan Naval Medical Hospital in Apapa, where he was later confirmed dead,” the statement read.
Olubolade served in several key national positions during his lifetime, including:
- Minister of Special Duties
- Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)
- Minister of Police Affairs
His contributions to national development, particularly in governance and public service, are fondly remembered.
