Jonathan Urges Nigerian Governors to Learn Good Governance from Governor Alex Otti.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has called on Nigerian governors and political leaders to visit Abia State and learn from the leadership style and achievements of Governor Alex Otti.

Jonathan made the call through his representative, Ambassador Godknows Igali, during the 80s Reunion Dinner and Award Ceremony of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) Alumni Association in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

His remarks came shortly after former President Olusegun Obasanjo also commended Governor Otti for his transformative leadership, especially following the commissioning of a 46.3-kilometer reconstructed road in the state.

“Otti Came Prepared,” Says Jonathan

Jonathan described Governor Otti as a prime example of purposeful, visionary, and results-driven governance, urging leaders across Nigeria to take a cue from his commitment to development.

“The presence of Alex Otti in Abia State shows intentionality in leadership. He came prepared,” Jonathan stated via Ambassador Igali.

He also praised the revival of the “Aba Made” brand, noting that it’s now a symbol of pride, unlike in the past when it was ridiculed.

Otti’s Focus on Infrastructure, Education, and Healthcare

In his response, Governor Alex Otti highlighted his administration’s commitment to public service and grassroots development, urging fellow alumni to consider political service for its broad societal impact.

He revealed that his government is renovating 200 primary health centers and 221 schools across all 184 wards in Abia. He also emphasized that the state has allocated 20% of its annual budget to education and 15% to healthcare—a combined 35% investment in human capital development.

“These sectors are non-negotiable,” Otti declared.

UNIPORT Alumni Celebrate Achievements and Call for Support

The Vice-Chancellor of UNIPORT, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, praised Governor Otti for his achievements and appealed for continued support from alumni, especially in resolving the university’s accommodation challenges for its over 40,000 students and 5,000 staff.
