Popular Nigerian actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has confirmed that she was recently invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following the lavish display of money spraying at her daughter’s wedding ceremony.
Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, May 6, Ojo shared a detailed statement about her visit to the EFCC’s office in Lagos on May 5, 2025, shortly after returning from the United Kingdom.

“I received an invitation from the EFCC while in the UK. Upon my return, I honoured the invitation,” she wrote.
According to the actress, the EFCC questioned her on various personal and professional matters, including her businesses, career, and work experience. Officials also presented video footage from the wedding showing guests, including celebrities, spraying Naira and foreign currencies like dollars.
Iyabo Ojo revealed that the anti-graft agency educated her on the legal implications of such actions.
- “I was surprised to learn that even spraying foreign currencies like the dollar is prohibited in Nigeria,” she stated.
She added that while she was not detained, her lawyer, O.I. Salami, was designated to represent her in case of further investigations.

In her statement, Ojo advised Nigerians to rethink the cultural practice of spraying money at events, saying it could attract legal consequences.
“Perhaps it’s time to reconsider this long-standing tradition. Let’s prioritise caution and avoid any potential problems,” she concluded.
This revelation comes amid increasing scrutiny by the EFCC on the abuse of currencies at social events, a practice that remains widespread despite legal prohibitions.
