The Nigeria Police Force has issued a stern warning to the Take It Back Movement (TIB) and other civil society groups planning a nationwide protest on April 7, 2025, urging them to cancel the demonstration.
According to reports from Naija Blog Daily, the protest is aimed at addressing critical issues such as the alleged abuse of the Cybercrime Act and the recent state of emergency declaration in Rivers State. The movement’s National Coordinator, Juwon Sanyaolu, had earlier confirmed the protest was set to be held nationwide.
However, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, released a statement on Sunday describing the planned protest as “ill-timed and mischievous.”
Adejobi noted that the federal government has already designated April 7 as National Police Day, a day to celebrate the resilience, dedication, and contributions of the Nigeria Police Force to national security.

“While we respect citizens’ constitutional right to peaceful assembly and association, holding a protest on the same day as National Police Day raises serious concerns about the motive behind such actions,” Adejobi stated.
The police said the day would feature high-profile dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond, including foreign Inspectors-General of Police and international diplomats, making the environment highly sensitive.
The statement further emphasized that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, remains committed to protecting citizens’ rights while maintaining law and order.

“We urge the organizers and would-be participants to opt for dialogue and channel their grievances through proper governmental institutions instead of taking to the streets on such a significant national occasion,” the statement concluded.
The planned April 7 protest is now under scrutiny, with the police stressing the importance of choosing more appropriate platforms for civic engagement.
