In a significant development in international immigration enforcement, the Republic of Ireland has deported no fewer than 35 Nigerian nationals, including five children, back to Nigeria. The deportees — comprising 21 men, 9 women, and 5 children — were returned via a chartered deportation flight that departed Dublin Airport on Wednesday night and landed in Nigeria on Thursday.

According to reports from the Irish Mirror, the flight experienced an unscheduled stopover due to a medical emergency on board. Despite the incident, Ireland’s Minister for Justice, Jim O’Callaghan, confirmed that all deportees were successfully returned and stated:
“Ireland has a rules-based immigration system. It is important that those rules are robust and enforced.”
While the Irish government did not provide detailed reasons for the mass deportation, it is believed that the action aligns with the country’s current immigration and asylum enforcement protocols.

Reacting to the news, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) said it was not informed about the deportation exercise.
NiDCOM spokesperson, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, told Naija Blog Daily that the agency was unaware of the Irish authorities’ move to repatriate Nigerian citizens.
This deportation raises fresh concerns around immigration policy, diaspora rights, and the growing number of Nigerians facing deportation from Europe.
