“I Will Stay in PDP and Work for Tinubu” – Wike Declares Loyalty.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that he will not leave the party, even while working under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In an interview with BBC Pidgin, published on Saturday, Wike dismissed calls for his resignation from the PDP, stressing that he is not afraid of political threats and will remain firmly rooted in the party he helped build.

“I can’t do that, I’m not afraid – how will I build a house and you now ask me to vacate the place?” Wike said. “It’s you that will leave the house, not me that built it.”

Wike Fires Back at PDP Critics

Wike addressed criticisms from PDP stakeholders in the South-East, accusing them of lacking political relevance and failing to deliver electoral results.

“Achike Udenwa has no National Assembly member and didn’t give his party 3% of votes. Sam Egwu didn’t produce a governor or any lawmaker, yet they are threatening,” Wike said. “Those of us who delivered governors and lawmakers are not issuing threats.”

He warned that any attempt to hijack the party through “fraudulent zoning” or intimidation would fail, adding that true loyalty should be judged by performance, not empty declarations.

No 2027 Presidential Ambition

When asked whether he would challenge President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, Wike was quick to shut down any such speculation.

“I will not contest again. I should contest against someone I am working with? Who would win it, if not him (Tinubu)?” he asked rhetorically.

Wike’s declaration underscores his current political strategy: maintaining influence within the PDP while enjoying the benefits of a key ministerial position in the APC-led federal government.
