House of Reps Directs NCC to Block All Pornographic Sites in Nigeria.

The Nigerian House of Representatives has instructed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to enforce the blocking of all pornographic websites across the country.

Lawmakers mandated the NCC to compel internet service providers (ISPs) to restrict access to pornographic content with immediate effect or face penalties.

Why the Reps Want Pornography Banned

  • The motion, sponsored by Dalhatu Tafoki, an APC lawmaker from Katsina State, raised concerns about the negative social impact of cyber pornography in Nigeria.
  • Tafoki argued that while porn addiction is a growing global problem, Nigeria has yet to take significant steps to regulate it. He emphasized that Nigeria, being a highly religious country, should not allow content that contradicts its moral and cultural values.

Impact of Pornography on Society

The lawmaker cited warnings from psychologists and sociologists, highlighting that exposure to pornographic content can lead to:

  • Adultery
  • Prostitution
  • Porn addiction
  • Psychological and mental health issues
