Hajj 2025: Saudi Arabia Deports Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, Denies Entry to Medina.

Controversial Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has been deported from Saudi Arabia after being denied entry into Medina, effectively barring him from participating in the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage.

The Kaduna-based cleric confirmed the development on his official Facebook page on Monday, attributing the deportation to his political views, which he claimed may not align with the policies of the Saudi authorities.

“Due to some reasons related to my views on world politics, the authorities in Saudi Arabia do not want me to be present at Hajj even though they have granted me a visa,” Gumi stated.

Visa Granted, But Entry Denied

Sheikh Gumi, who traveled as part of a delegation of religious scholars sponsored by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), arrived in Medina on Saturday night aboard Umza Air, landing at Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport.

However, immigration officials reportedly stopped him upon arrival, denied him access into the city, and placed him on a return flight to Nigeria.

Nigerian Authorities Seek Clarification

Gumi noted that Nigerian officials have expressed concern over the incident and have pledged to engage the Saudi government for clarification.

“I am grateful to the authorities in Nigeria who have pledged to engage with the Saudi authorities on this matter,” he wrote.

An anonymous NAHCON official confirmed the incident, stating that the Commission was surprised by the deportation, as all delegates had valid visas and fulfilled the necessary requirements for Hajj participation.

No Official Statement from Saudi Arabia

As of the time of this report, neither the Saudi Embassy in Nigeria nor the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued an official statement regarding Gumi’s deportation.

Analysts suggest the move may be linked to the cleric’s outspoken stance on political and religious issues, including his role in mediating with armed groups in northern Nigeria and his criticism of both Western and Middle Eastern foreign policies.
