Gunmen have killed two Chinese expatriates and a police escort officer in Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State, in what has been described as a coordinated ambush on Friday, April 4, 2025.

The Abia State Police Command confirmed the attack in a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka. She revealed that four other Chinese nationals and two police officers were successfully rescued during a swift joint operation involving the police, military, and sister security agencies.

The victims were reportedly ambushed while on their way to their company site in Agukwu-Amaya, Ndundu community, Uturu. During the attack, Mr. Quan and Mr. Cai, both Chinese workers, and Inspector Audu Saidu, a police escort, were killed. The assailants also made away with Inspector Saidu’s rifle.

“A joint team led by the Divisional Police Officer of Uturu responded to the distress call and launched a rescue mission,” Chinaka said.

The police successfully rescued three expatriates unhurt and one with injuries. Another officer, Inspector Uba Ahmed, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, while Inspector Ijeagwa Friday was rescued unhurt.

All the injured victims are receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abakaliki, and are reportedly responding well.

On April 5, a tactical team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) visited the crime scene as part of an ongoing effort to apprehend the perpetrators.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, has assured the public that justice will be served and urged residents to remain calm and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
