Fear gripped the Akinlalu community in Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State on Tuesday after gunmen ambushed a patrol team of the Amotekun Corps, killing three people.
According to reports, the armed men had earlier attacked a farmland in the area. A concerned resident alerted Amotekun operatives in Ile-Ife, but as the patrol team moved toward Akinlalu, the attackers — already aware of their approach — launched a deadly ambush.
The Public Relations Officer of Osun Amotekun, Yusuf Abass, confirmed the incident, noting that the patrol team was heading to confront a group that had been terrorising the community when the attack occurred. He added that the assailants also stole two service rifles from the operatives.
Abass explained that reinforcement teams were deployed immediately. At a T-junction leading into Akinlalu, the operatives met the road barricaded by the gunmen, sparking a gun battle that lasted for over an hour.

- “Amotekun operatives successfully overpowered the gunmen. Three lives were lost, we arrested three while several others sustained injuries and fled the scene,” Abass stated.
During mop-up operations, Amotekun operatives discovered two additional firearms, uniforms, and berets used by the attackers to impersonate security agents. These items were recovered from a hideout linked to the gunmen.
