There was tension in Kwara State on Saturday evening as six passengers travelling from Abuja to Offa were abducted by armed gunmen along the Obbo-Ayegunle road in Ekiti Local Government Area.
According to reports reaching Naija Blog Daily, the incident occurred between 5pm and 6pm, when the victims, who were passengers in a Sienna vehicle belonging to Olumoh Express Transport Company, were attacked by eight armed men.
The vehicle, registered as FFA 50XD, was on its way from Abuja to Offa when it was ambushed. Seven passengers, including the driver, were taken by the kidnappers, but three children were later released.
Children Rescued After Kidnap Incident in Kwara
Spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the abduction. She said security operatives swiftly swung into action after receiving distress calls.
“Police officers, in collaboration with local vigilantes, quickly moved to the scene. The vehicle was recovered and a coordinated bush combing operation led to the rescue of three children, aged between 2 and 12,” she said.
Police Intensify Efforts to Rescue Remaining Victims
At the time of this report, efforts to rescue the remaining six victims are ongoing. The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, assured residents that security agencies are working round the clock through intelligence gathering, discreet investigations, and continued search operations to locate the kidnappers and free the hostages.
