Governor Adeleke Relaxes Curfew in Osun Communities Ahead of Eid El Kabir.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has approved the relaxation of the curfew in the conflict-affected towns of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun, citing improved peace and stability in the region.

The move comes just days before the Eid El Kabir celebrations, allowing residents more freedom to observe the Islamic festival.

New Curfew Time Effective May 25

According to a statement released on Saturday by Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, the new curfew will now run from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., beginning Sunday, May 25, 2025. This replaces the earlier 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. restriction that had been in place due to recurring violence over land disputes.

Governor Adeleke stated:

“Following near total return to peace in the warring communities of Ifon-Ilobu-Erin Osun, it gladdens my heart… to direct that the hitherto 6pm-6am curfew will now be between 9pm to 5am… effective from Sunday, 25th May, 2025.”

Security Presence to Continue

While acknowledging the progress made, Governor Adeleke emphasized the need for continued vigilance, directing 24-hour surveillance by a joint task force comprising the Army, Police, DSS, and Civil Defence.

He also issued a warning:

“Any community leader whose subjects disrupt the peace will be held accountable under the law.”

Eid El Kabir Message

The Governor extended warm wishes to Muslims and non-Muslims across Ifon, Ilobu, Erin Osun, and the entire Osun State ahead of the Eid celebrations.

“I wish our dear Muslim and non-Muslim brothers and sisters a happy Eid El Kabir festival in advance,” Adeleke added.

The original curfew was imposed in March 2025 after violent communal clashes over land disputes led to the loss of lives and destruction of property.
