The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has once again revised its visa policy for Nigerian nationals, introducing tougher entry restrictions that are already sparking concern in the Nigerian travel and tourism industry.
According to a fresh directive issued on Tuesday, which was confirmed by Daily Trust, the UAE has banned transit visa applications for Nigerians and placed new limits on tourist visa eligibility.
These measures are expected to drastically reduce the number of Nigerian travelers to Dubai, a major destination for tourism, business, and migration.
Key Highlights of the New UAE Visa Conditions for Nigerians
- Transit Visas:
Transit visa applications for Nigerian nationals are no longer allowed.
- Tourist Visas:
Nigerians aged 18 to 45 years are not eligible for tourist visas if traveling alone.
Those in this age range must be accompanied to qualify for a tourist visa.
- For Applicants Aged 45 and Above:
Must submit a personal Nigerian bank account statement for the last six months.
Each month’s ending balance must show a minimum of $10,000 or the naira equivalent.
- Other Requirements:
Hotel reservation
Data page of the passport
Other supporting travel documents remain mandatory.
The notification, reportedly issued by Dubai immigration authorities, clearly instructs travel agents to screen applications thoroughly before submission. The new visa policies apply immediately and are expected to impact upcoming travel plans for many Nigerians.
Background: UAE and Nigeria Visa Relations
This latest update follows the lifting of a previous two-year UAE visa ban on Nigerian travelers in 2023. While that decision was initially celebrated, it came with tight conditions, which many Nigerians struggled to meet.

Travel agents speaking with Daily Trust now say the situation is worsening, with even fewer chances for average Nigerian travelers to secure a UAE visa, especially those traveling for leisure, shopping, or short-term business.
What This Means for Nigerians:
- Fewer travel options to Dubai and other UAE cities.
- Stricter financial requirements may limit access to wealthier applicants.
- Transit flights via Dubai are no longer available to Nigerians, affecting international travel routes.
