The 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (#AMVCA11) was a big night for Nollywood, with Seven Doors, a historical drama by Femi Adebayo, stealing the spotlight by winning Best Lead Actor (Femi Adebayo) and Best Lead Actress (Chioma Chukwuka).
Directed by Femi Adebayo, Adebayo Tijani, and Tope Adebayo, Seven Doors tells the story of King Adedunjoye, a reluctant monarch burdened by a generational curse. To break the curse, he must marry six additional wives—opening “seven doors”—despite his deep love for his first wife, Amaka. The series explores themes of tradition, sacrifice, and destiny.
A Night of Celebrating Excellence
Held on May 10, 2025, the AMVCA11 ceremony celebrated the best of African film and television. Nollywood icons Sani Mu’azu and Nkem Owoh were honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards, while rising filmmaker Kayode Kasum received the Trailblazer Award for his innovative contributions to the industry.
Lateef Adedimeji’s Lisabi (The Uprising) also picked up several awards, underscoring its powerful impact on the industry this year.
