The United States Department of State has announced a new visa policy affecting Nigeria and 30 other African countries, restricting most non-immigrant, non-diplomatic visas to a single entry with a three-month validity.
The policy took effect immediately on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, according to a statement from the US Embassy in Abuja.
- “Most non-immigrant and non-diplomatic visas issued to citizens of Nigeria will be single-entry visas with a three-month validity period,” the US Embassy clarified.
However, the embassy noted that visas issued before July 8, 2025, will remain valid until their original expiration dates.

New US visas issued to citizens of the affected countries will now be:
- Single-entry only
- Valid for just 3 months
- This applies to non-immigrant, non-diplomatic categories (e.g., tourist, student, business visas).
