Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed allegations linking him to militant groups, condemning fake social media posts and videos as deliberate attempts to incite tension in the state.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara described the viral claims—particularly videos allegedly showing explosions at oil and gas facilities in Rivers State—as false, malicious, and misleading.
‘No Links to Militants’ – Fubara Clears the Air
The statement emphasized that communities in the affected areas have debunked the claims, assuring that critical infrastructure remains intact and operational.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has no link to any militant group, does not contemplate any such association, and has no reason to encourage any criminal elements to undertake actions that threaten peace, security, or the economy,” the statement read.
Calls for Security Crackdown on Fake News
Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to peace and stability in Rivers State, stressing that good governance and development can only thrive in a secure environment.
He also warned against political actors exploiting the state’s ongoing crisis for selfish interests, urging bloggers and social media influencers to desist from spreading falsehoods that could escalate tensions.
Furthermore, he called on security agencies to investigate and take decisive action against individuals spreading misinformation to destabilize the state.
