Fresh Wave of Anti-Trump Protests Sweep Across US Cities.

A new round of anti-Trump protests erupted across major US cities on Saturday, as thousands took to the streets to oppose President Donald Trump’s controversial policies, especially his stance on immigration, civil liberties, and science funding.

In New York City, demonstrators gathered outside the main public library, waving placards reading “No Kings in America” and “Resist Tyranny.” The protests were a direct rebuke of Trump’s hard-line immigration policies, with many chanting, “No ICE, no fear, immigrants are welcome here” — targeting the actions of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.

Washington D.C. also saw large crowds outside the White House, where protesters voiced alarm over what they called Trump’s attack on constitutional norms. “This administration is undermining the rule of law and threatening due process,” said Benjamin Douglas, a 41-year-old protester advocating for detained student activist Mahmoud Khalil.

Douglas added that certain individuals were being targeted as “test cases to erode long-standing legal protections and stir up xenophobia.”

Holocaust survivor descendants, including 73-year-old Kathy Valy from New York, drew parallels between Trump and fascist leaders, expressing deep concern for America’s democratic future. “What we’re seeing now is how Hitler rose to power — it’s happening here again,” she said.

‘Science is Being Ignored’

Protesters also rallied against the Trump administration’s defunding of science and health programs. Daniella Butler, a PhD student in immunology at Johns Hopkins University, criticized Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a known vaccine skeptic, for downplaying the danger of measles outbreaks. Carrying a disease map of Texas, she warned, “When science is ignored, people die.”

In Texas, small but vocal protests took place in Galveston, with participants saying they couldn’t afford to wait for another election cycle. “We’ve lost too much already,” said Patsy Oliver, a 63-year-old writer.

On the West Coast, hundreds of protesters in San Francisco spelled out “IMPEACH + REMOVE” on the beach, while others waved upside-down US flags — a traditional signal of national distress.

Grassroots Movement Expands

The protests were coordinated by 50501, a grassroots group representing 50 protests in 50 states and one movement. According to the organizers, over 400 protests were planned nationwide as part of a non-violent response to what they call the “anti-democratic and illegal actions of the Trump administration.”

While turnout was reportedly lower than the April 5 “Hands Off” demonstrations, organizers remain committed to mobilizing millions across the country.

As tensions escalate in the run-up to the 2026 US midterm elections, many Americans are voicing a strong rejection of Trump’s policies, signaling that resistance to authoritarianism and suppression of civil liberties continues to grow.
