Fireboy DML Reflects on Firstborn Responsibilities in Shaping His Life.

Afrobeats sensation Fireboy DML recently opened up about how his experiences as a firstborn shaped his character and sense of responsibility. In an interview on the 90s Baby Show, Fireboy shared how his childhood role as the eldest sibling influenced many of his life choices.

One of the standout moments Fireboy recalled was his sacrifice of attending a public school while his younger siblings attended private institutions. According to the artist, this decision wasn’t just about education; it was about taking on the burden of ensuring his siblings had the best opportunities.

Fireboy explained, “There was a time I had to go to public school so my siblings could go to private school. I heard the phrase ‘you have to be responsible’ for years. I think it comes naturally as a firstborn.”

This responsibility, he believes, gave him a sense of duty toward his family, especially in protecting the family name. Reflecting on his growth, Fireboy added, “You’re responsible for your siblings and upholding the family name. I didn’t become a ‘man’ until I left home and went to university. That was when I realized I was being shielded from a lot of things.”

His candid reflections underline the weight that firstborns often carry in their families and how these early responsibilities can shape one’s maturity and understanding of the world.
