Fire Engulfs Onitsha Main Market, Anambra Fire Service Battles to Contain Inferno.

A raging fire has gutted parts of the Onitsha Main Market in Anambra State, Nigeria, leaving traders scrambling to salvage their goods.

The blaze reportedly started at 6:20 AM in one of the buildings along Ifejika Street, by Sokoto Road, before spreading to an adjacent structure. The cause of the fire remains unknown at the time of this report.

Eyewitnesses and emergency responders, including men of the Anambra State Fire Service, were seen making frantic efforts to control the situation and minimize damage.

Confirming the incident, Chukwudi Chiketa, Head of the Media and Publicity Unit of the Anambra Fire Service, stated:

  • “Anambra State Fire Service is currently on intervention at the scene of the fire outbreak. The distress call came at 6:20 AM, and our firefighters were immediately deployed.”

Chiketa assured the public that the situation is under control and urged residents to remain calm as efforts continue to completely extinguish the fire.
