FG Fulfills 30-Year Promise of House Allocations to 94 Super Eagles Heroes of 1994 AFCON.

In a long-awaited move, the Federal Government of Nigeria has officially fulfilled its three-decade-old promise by allocating houses to members of the 1994 Super Eagles team that won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Tunisia.

This milestone was announced by Pemi Temitope, Director and Head of the Public Building and Housing Development Department, during a symbolic handover ceremony in Abuja. The event was coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, with Badamasi Haiba, Director of Press and Public Relations, issuing the official statement.

According to Temitope, 94 beneficiaries from the victorious squad received their housing units across different parts of Nigeria. While some of the legendary players were allotted houses in their respective home states, others chose to receive their units in Abuja.

  • “The government is committed to fulfilling its promises and rewarding these national heroes for their patriotic service and the glory they brought to Nigeria,” said Temitope.

Efan Ekoku Receives on Behalf of Team Members

One of the 1994 Super Eagles strikers, Efan Ekoku, was represented by his niece, Lisa Nwagbogun, at the handover event. She expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Nigerian government for delivering on its word.

“This gesture not only honors the service of the team but also restores faith in the value of public promises. I am deeply grateful to the Federal Government and the Ministry of Housing,” said Ekoku through his representative.

The journey to this fulfillment began with former President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2022 approval to finally honor the 1994 housing pledge, originally made by the administration in power at the time of the Super Eagles’ historic victory.

  • The 1994 Super Eagles squad is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s greatest football teams, with their AFCON triumph in Tunisia still celebrated by fans and sports analysts alike.

This act of recognition now stands as a reminder of the importance of honoring national commitments, especially to those who have brought global recognition and pride to Nigeria.
