The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has directed all public senior secondary schools in Abuja to close on or before Friday, November 28, citing urgent security concerns.
The directive was communicated by Aishatu Sani Alhassan, Director of School Services at the FCT Secondary Education Board, through an official memo issued on Tuesday.
School principals and heads have been instructed to end all academic activities immediately and ensure students are safely and orderly dismissed. The memo further requires schools to:
- Notify students, staff, and parents of the early closure
- Adjust all scheduled academic activities accordingly
- Prepare to resume classes on the next official school day, unless further directives are issued

The FCTA’s decision follows a recent wave of attacks on schools in various parts of the country, which has included mass abductions of students.
This comes amid other national security measures, including President Bola Tinubu’s order for 24-hour aerial surveillance over Kwara, Kebbi, and Niger states, aimed at curbing kidnappings and other criminal activities in vulnerable areas.
The administration stressed that the safety and security of students and staff remain a top priority, and urged all school authorities and parents to cooperate fully with the directive.
