The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has resumed direct revenue collection at the cargo terminals of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, ending a 15-year suspension.
The development was announced in a statement on Saturday by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, through the authority’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
According to the statement, officials from FAAN’s Directorate of Cargo Development and Services have now been deployed to the cargo release points of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) and the Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) warehouses. Their mandate is to supervise the real-time collection of accrued cargo charges, ensuring transparency and accountability.

“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has recorded a landmark achievement with the successful resumption of direct revenue collection at the cargo terminals of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, after a 15-year hiatus,” the statement read.
FAAN noted that the new initiative, implemented in collaboration with the PTC Customs Area Command under the leadership of Comptroller T. Awe, is already plugging revenue leakages and promoting efficiency in the air cargo value chain.
The agency added that the breakthrough at MMIA is a model that will soon be replicated at other airports nationwide, in line with FAAN’s vision of enhancing operational efficiency, inter-agency collaboration, and ease of doing business in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
