Ex-Vice President Namadi Sambo Denies Defection to APC, Reaffirms Loyalty to PDP.

Former Vice President of Nigeria, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo has debunked widespread reports claiming that he has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The clarification came on Thursday through a formal statement issued by his media adviser, Umar Sani, who described the defection reports as false, misleading, and politically motivated.

Viral Photo With Governor Uba Sani Misrepresented — Aide

The rumors stemmed from a circulated photograph showing Sambo with Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, a prominent APC figure. However, the statement clarified that the photo was not recent and was being intentionally misrepresented.

  • “The image was taken years ago during a condolence visit by the Governor to Sambo’s residence in Abuja after the death of his brother, the late Sani Sambo,” Umar Sani explained.

He called the photo’s use in news reports a “contrived narrative” aimed at sowing confusion and scoring cheap political points.

Sambo Still Loyal to PDP

The statement firmly reasserted the former Vice President’s unwavering commitment to the PDP, noting:

“His Excellency, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, remains a loyal and dedicated member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He has no intention of joining any other political party.”

  • It also emphasized that the defection claims were completely fabricated and urged the public to disregard such false reports.

Sambo to Attend Kaduna Hospital Commissioning

The statement further clarified that Sambo’s scheduled presence at the commissioning of a 300-bed hospital in Kaduna on Thursday, June 19, 2025, should not be misconstrued as a political move.

  • The hospital, which was initiated during his tenure as Vice President, is a legacy project demonstrating his lasting contributions to Kaduna State’s development.

“His invitation to witness the completion of this project must not be misinterpreted as political endorsement or partisan alignment,” the statement added.

Final Word: No Defection, No Political Shift

Umar Sani concluded by stating that Namadi Sambo remains firmly aligned with the PDP and has not held or expressed any intention to join the APC or any other political party.

“The defection story is purely the figment of the imagination of its authors, calculated to sow confusion and achieve cheap political mileage,” the statement read.
