Ex-Labour Party Governorship Candidate Urges Fubara to Sustain Reconciliation, Avoid Political Crisis in Rivers State.

Former Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, Udengs Eradiri, has called on the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, to remain focused on his reconciliation efforts and distance himself from individuals fueling political tension in the state.

In an interview with journalists in Yenagoa, Eradiri praised Governor Fubara for taking the bold step to reconcile with his estranged political godfather, Chief Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. He stated that Fubara’s move aligns with the advice he had given earlier, urging the embattled governor to seek peace by apologizing to Wike.

Eradiri, a former President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) and ex-Bayelsa State Commissioner for Youth and Environment, said certain individuals surrounding Fubara were responsible for fueling the political crisis by exploiting the situation for personal gain.

According to him, some of these so-called allies were misguiding Fubara into making political and constitutional errors, while others were attempting to give the crisis an ethnic coloration, worsening the divide in Rivers politics.

He warned the suspended governor to shut his doors to crisis merchants and stay committed to the peace process initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which aimed at restoring political stability in Rivers State.

“If Fubara had implemented the initial peace deal crafted by President Tinubu—a veteran in political conflict resolution—he could have avoided the near-impeachment and constitutional chaos,” Eradiri stated.

He also cautioned Fubara against allowing his supporters to carry out provocative actions that could derail the fragile reconciliation process. He condemned the recent walk-out by pro-Fubara women on the First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, describing it as “disrespectful and counterproductive.”

“Every action taken by his supporters reflects on the governor. Fubara must show true commitment to peace by reigning in his camp and discouraging acts that fuel political discord,” he added.

Eradiri appealed to Wike, suspended members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and other political stakeholders aligned with the minister to forgive Fubara and support the ongoing efforts to restore peace and unity in the state.
