Former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Dennis Amachree, has called for the urgent redeployment of troops stationed in Rivers State to Borno, where terrorist activities by Boko Haram and ISWAP are escalating.
Amachree stated that no critical security threat exists in oil-rich Rivers State to justify a state of emergency or heavy military presence. Instead, he emphasized that Nigeria’s limited military resources should be redirected to the North-East, particularly Borno State, where Governor Babagana Zulum recently raised the alarm over increased terrorist infiltration.

“There is no serious problem in Rivers State, where we’ll say let’s send all our troops there. We don’t have a large army. Our territorial integrity is at stake. Every Nigerian has to feel secure,” Amachree said.
He urged the Federal Government to take Zulum’s warning seriously, suggesting that a state of emergency be declared in Borno instead, without suspending the governor, whom he praised for his leadership and commitment to security.
“We’ve declared a state of emergency in Borno before. This time, don’t remove the governor. Let the military handle operations while Governor Zulum continues his excellent work,” Amachree added.

Borno State has been plagued by over a decade of insurgency led by Boko Haram and the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP). These terror groups have caused the deaths of thousands and displaced countless civilians, many of whom are now living in IDP camps.
