As Christians across Nigeria celebrate Easter, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has called on citizens to use the season of sacrifice to pray for compassionate and responsible leaders.
In a statement released on Saturday through his spokesman, Ibrahim Umar, Obi emphasized the need for leaders who genuinely share in the pains and struggles of the people. He said compassionate leaders consider the impact of their decisions on citizens and act with empathy and responsibility.
“At Easter, we reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for humanity. This is the perfect time to pray for tender-hearted and caring leaders for our country,” Obi stated.

He lamented the growing insecurity, poverty, and widespread hardship in Nigeria, describing them as consequences of leadership failure and indifference from those in power.
Despite the challenges, Obi encouraged Nigerians and members of the Obidient Movement worldwide not to lose hope, assuring that “our Redeemer is living and active,” and that a New Nigeria is still possible.
He urged citizens to stay resilient, united, and prayerful as they work toward a better future for the nation.
