DSS to Arraign Sowore, Facebook, and X Over Alleged False Claim Against Tinubu.

The Department of State Services (DSS) is set to arraign politician and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, alongside tech giants X (formerly Twitter) and Meta (Facebook), before a Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday.

Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and founder of Sahara Reporters, is accused of spreading false claims against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to court documents marked FHC/ABJ/CR/484/2025, the DSS alleged that Sowore used his verified X and Facebook accounts to post messages referring to Tinubu as a “criminal,” comments the government insists were false, defamatory, and intended to cause public disorder.

The charges, filed under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Amendment Act 2024 and the Criminal Code Act, accuse Sowore of publishing false information and defamatory content across both platforms in August 2025.

Among the allegations, prosecutors claim that Sowore’s posts were designed to incite unrest among Nigerians with opposing views about the President’s leadership. Both X and Facebook were also named in the suit for allegedly failing to act quickly to remove the posts when flagged by the DSS.

Justice Mohammed Umar will preside over the case on Tuesday, with Sowore and the platforms facing a five-count charge that carries serious legal implications if found guilty.
