Renowned Nigerian DJ and music producer, DJ Neptune, has raised concerns over what he describes as the growing sidelining of seasoned and veteran artistes in the country’s music industry.

Speaking during an interview with Hip TV, DJ Neptune said the industry suffers from a structural problem that pushes older creatives aside once they reach certain milestones, unlike Western industries, where veterans continue to thrive alongside new acts.

According to him, the Nigerian music scene often treats experienced artistes as irrelevant once fresh talents emerge.

“In Nigeria, once you reach a certain level, they push you aside like, ‘Oya go to that corner, we’re done with you.’ It’s a structural problem. Abroad, the OGs are still as relevant as the newbies. We need to address the structural issues,” he said.

DJ Neptune stressed that the solution lies in the industry embracing both old and new talents while correcting the structural flaws that fuel the trend.

He also spoke about personal reinvention as a key to staying relevant in a fast-changing entertainment landscape.

“I don’t plan to do this all my life—when it’s time to take a bow, I will. But over the years, I’ve learned when it’s time to reinvent. That’s life. Things are changing, so you need to move with the time,” he added.
