Afrobeats superstar Davido has revealed that he has never met Nicki Minaj in person, despite collaborating with the U.S. rapper on two songs.

In a recent episode of the Bootleg Kev podcast, Davido shared how their collaborations happened entirely online, starting with a simple DM exchange.

“You know the crazy thing? I have never met her [Nicki Minaj]. It’s crazy. We speak on the phone all the time. The first time we linked was through DM,” he said.

He explained that after noticing that Nicki Minaj followed him, he sent her a message.

“I woke up the next morning and saw her reply. I was shocked. I told her I had a song for us, and she said she was interested. I think it was 2019 or 2020. I sent her the record, and two days later, she sent me her verse.”

Davido also revealed that they planned to shoot the music video in Los Angeles, but it didn’t work out because Nicki Minaj was pregnant at the time. Despite this, they have remained in contact, and she later invited him for another collaboration on her 2023 anniversary album, Pink Friday 2.

“She’s always supportive. She’s amazing,” Davido added.

Davido and Nicki Minaj first collaborated on “Holy Ground” from his 2020 album A Better Time, followed by another track on Nicki’s anniversary album last year.
