Afrobeats megastar Davido has reached another milestone in his career as he officially becomes a voting member of the Recording Academy, the prestigious body behind the Grammy Awards. This new status gives the Nigerian singer direct influence in the nomination and final voting process for the 2026 GRAMMYs.

The Recording Academy confirmed his inclusion in an announcement shared on Instagram, alongside other new members such as Offset, Ravyn Lenae, Jessie Reyez, Zac Brown Band, Anne Akiko Meyers, Miles Minnick, Maya Elizabeth, Damien Sneed, Damaris Musica, and Stewart Copeland. The caption highlighted the power of member participation, stating that every vote helps shape the music that gets recognised on the world stage.

Reacting to the honour, Davido described his induction as “a game-changer.” In his words:

  • “I have learned that voting empowers you to have a say in what is considered and voted on in each season. I am honoured to be part of the Recording Academy community, and I look forward to voting.”

Davido previously earned three nominations at the 2024 GRAMMYs, including Best Global Album and Best African Performance, though he did not win. His fourth nomination came at the 2025 GRAMMYs through his collaboration with Chris Brown and Lojay on the hit single “Sensational”, which was nominated for Best African Music Performance but lost to Tems’ “Love Me Jeje.”

The Academy also announced that the voting period for the 2026 GRAMMYs will begin on October 3, 2025, encouraging members to review the ballot, listen carefully, and vote early.

With this new role, Davido cements his position not just as a chart-topping artist but also as a global influencer in shaping the future of music recognition at the Grammys.
