President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has reaffirmed that the Dangote Refinery is not in competition with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), emphasizing a new era of cooperation aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s energy security.
This declaration was made during Dangote’s visit to Bayo Ojulari, the newly appointed Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC, at the company’s headquarters in Abuja. The meeting, according to NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye, was part of efforts to promote mutual collaboration and healthy competition in the petroleum industry.
No Rivalry, Only Cooperation
“There is no competition between us; we are not here to compete with NNPC Ltd. NNPC is part and parcel of our business, and we are also part of NNPC. This is an era of cooperation between the two organisations,” Dangote said.
The remarks come amid recent concerns over alleged rivalry between the $20 billion Dangote Refinery and the state-owned NNPC, especially regarding crude supply agreements and the use of naira for transactions. Dangote had previously alleged that some “cabals” within the petroleum marketing space were working against his refinery — but clarified that these elements were major marketers, not the NNPC.
Shared Vision for Energy Security
During the meeting, both organizations pledged to deepen their partnership to ensure energy security, create jobs, and foster shared prosperity for Nigerians.
Dangote congratulated Ojulari and the new NNPC leadership, noting that although the task ahead is monumental, he believes the new GCEO can drive positive change.
NNPC Committed to Collaboration
Ojulari, in response, assured Dangote of NNPC’s readiness to partner with the private sector in areas that offer commercial value and national development.

He described the NNPC workforce as highly skilled, dedicated, and innovative, emphasizing the importance of building a legacy of prosperity through collaboration.
“We will continue to foster healthy competition and productive collaboration. Our focus is national interest and delivering value to Nigerians,” Ojulari said.
Both Dangote and Ojulari committed to personally managing the relationship between their organizations to ensure continuous engagement and progress.
