The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has appealed for calm following a viral video showing Ghanaians protesting and allegedly calling for the deportation of Nigerians living in Ghana.
The video, which has sparked concerns online, features protesters accusing some Nigerians of behaviors that allegedly conflict with Ghanaian societal norms.

In response, Dabiri-Erewa, through a statement signed by Mr. Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of Media, Publicity and Protocol at NIDCOM, condemned the generalisation and criminal tagging of Nigerians in Ghana.
- “Nigerians are not criminals. They are good ambassadors wherever they find themselves. Those involved in criminal activities should be identified and dealt with individually,” she stated.
She also described the relationship between both countries as that of Siamese twins, calling for mutual respect and brotherhood in the spirit of ECOWAS and West African unity.
The NIDCOM boss urged Nigerians living in Ghana not to react violently or be provoked, as the situation is currently being handled diplomatically by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu.
Dabiri-Erewa further cautioned against the use of incendiary language by individuals on either side, warning that such rhetoric could escalate tensions.

She also dismissed viral claims of attacks on Nigerian-owned businesses and property in Ghana, stating that there is no verified evidence of such incidents.
- “Let us not spread panic. We must avoid reprisals at all costs,” she advised.
Commending both the Nigerian and Ghanaian High Commissioners for their efforts, she assured that proactive diplomatic steps are being taken to ensure the safety and well-being of Nigerians residing in Ghana.
