The Federal High Court in Lokoja has issued an interim injunction restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from receiving or processing petitions to initiate a recall process against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central Senatorial District.
This ruling comes amid heightened political tensions, as pro-recall movements gain momentum in Kogi Central. Another group of Ebira indigenes refutes allegations that the process is being influenced by political opponents with financial incentives.

According to the court order, delivered on Thursday, March 20, 2025, INEC, its staff, agents, and representatives, are barred from accepting any petition containing fictitious signatures or conducting any referendum pending the determination of the motion on notice. The application, moved by Smart Nwachimere, Esq., of West-Idahosa, SAN & Co., was filed by Anebe Jacob Ogirima and four other registered voters from Kogi Central who cited concerns over the legality of the recall process.
The court has adjourned the case to May 6, 2025, for a report of service and further mention.
