Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has attributed the rising wave of insecurity in the country to the collapse of family values.
Speaking on Thursday at the closing ceremony of the 2025 edition of Exercise Haske Biyu at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, Kaduna, the defence chief stressed that the family remains the foundation of every society.
- “The family is the bedrock of every community. Without the family, there can’t be a good community. What we have realised is that because the family system is failing, insecurity is growing, which means if we address the family issues, insecurity will go down,” Musa said.

The exercise, which drew participants from Nigeria and other countries, focused on family values, civic duties, and moral resilience as key tools in tackling security challenges.
Musa urged Nigerian families to take responsibility in shaping the nation’s future by instilling discipline, respect, and love in their children, values he said are essential for raising responsible citizens and reducing crime.
