History was made in Oyo State as Oba Abimbola Owoade was officially crowned the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, succeeding the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who passed away on April 22, 2022, at the age of 83.
The grand coronation ceremony took place at Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo, and was attended by top government officials, traditional rulers, and dignitaries from across Nigeria. Governor Seyi Makinde led the occasion, where Oba Owoade was celebrated by thousands of well-wishers.

The staff and instruments of office had earlier been presented to Oba Owoade on Monday, January 13, 2025, at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, symbolizing the official confirmation of his ascension.
