Bello Turji, one of Nigeria’s most wanted terror leaders in the North West, is reportedly seeking peace talks with authorities following the death of his top field commander and cousin, Kachalla Yellow Danbokolo.
According to a post by Zagazola Makama, a renowned counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, Turji has initiated moves to convene a meeting with other bandit groups operating in Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina States.
Danbokolo’s Death Cripples Turji’s Terror Network
Danbokolo, who was recently neutralised by Nigerian security operatives, was a central figure in Turji’s criminal operations. He was the strategic engine behind numerous violent raids, ambushes, and mass abductions across the North West.
- “Turji was mostly the public face. It was Danbokolo who led the fighting forces, managed logistics, and enforced their authority in forest corridors,” a source familiar with the group’s inner workings revealed.
- “Without Danbokolo, Turji’s operational capacity is severely weakened.”
Tactical Surrender or Genuine Repentance?
Security experts have urged caution in response to Turji’s sudden peace overture, warning that it could be a tactical ploy to regain strength amid mounting military pressure and internal setbacks.
- “Turji must not be forgiven. The government must reject his plea to surrender,” Makama wrote, citing intelligence sources.
- “His move appears to be strategic, not rooted in genuine remorse.”

So far, security agencies have not issued an official response regarding the alleged peace offer.
Calls for Stronger Action
Many analysts argue that the government should prioritize eliminating remaining bandit leaders rather than engaging in negotiations with individuals responsible for widespread violence, displacement, and loss of lives in the region.
