The Senate and House of Representatives of Nigeria have officially postponed the resumption of plenary sittings from the initially scheduled April 29 to Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
This development was communicated through separate internal memoranda issued by the Clerk to the Senate, Andrew Ogbonna Nwoba, and his House counterpart, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, dated April 20, 2025.
Reason for Postponement
Both chambers had earlier adjourned plenary on March 27 to allow lawmakers to participate in the Easter and Sallah celebrations. The new resumption date, according to the memos, accommodates the International Workers’ Day public holiday and provides additional time for constituency engagement.
Senate Clerk Nwoba stated:
“This postponement is made to allow Distinguished Senators stay with their constituents during the International Workers’ Day public holiday… and to further enhance constituency engagements.”
Similarly, House Clerk Danzaria explained that the change would allow honourable members to continue fulfilling their representative mandates in their various constituencies.
Official Communication:
- New Date for Resumption: Tuesday, May 6, 2025
- Previous Date: Monday, April 29, 2025
Lawmakers are urged to take note of the new schedule and act accordingly.
