BREAKING: Nigerian Police Rescue 46 Trafficked Victims from Ghana, Arrest 7 Over Human Trafficking and Cyber Fraud.

Abuja, Nigeria –

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the successful rescue of 46 trafficked victims and the arrest of seven suspects involved in a cross-border human trafficking and cybercrime network operating between Ghana and Nigeria.

According to a statement released on Thursday by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the operation was carried out by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja, following a distress alert from INTERPOL NCB Accra, Ghana.

Adejobi revealed that 31 victims were lured from Ghana to Nigeria under the false promise of job opportunities in Europe. On arrival, they were coerced into fraudulent online marketing schemes connected to the QNET network.

Ghanaian Victim Tricked by QNET Fraud Syndicate

The police explained that in August 2024, one Samuel Dankwah Opoku, a Ghanaian, was deceived by George Tenkron and directed to travel to Nigeria under the pretense of employment in Spain. Upon reaching Nigeria, he became a victim of QNET’s exploitative scheme, after paying GHC 30,000 to Attah Amankwaah, a Ghanaian living in Nigeria and identified as a key suspect.

Following a coordinated raid, operatives arrested six suspects, including Amankwaah. During the operation, incriminating items were recovered, confirming the existence of a wider human trafficking and cyber fraud network.

  • The rescued victims have been handed over to the Ghana High Commission in Abuja for proper reintegration, in line with international human rights protocols.

Another Arrest in Uyo Uncovers 15 More Victims

In a related case, on June 17, 2025, INTERPOL received another alert involving four Ghanaian nationals trafficked into Nigeria by Achiaa Grace Afrifa, 39, who allegedly defrauded them of GHC 126,000 under the guise of securing jobs abroad.

Police Vow Justice as Investigations Continue

All seven suspects from both operations are currently in custody and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the swift response of Nigerian operatives and the collaboration with INTERPOL and the Ghanaian authorities. He reaffirmed the Force’s dedication to fighting human trafficking, combating cybercrime, and protecting vulnerable persons.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to upholding human rights, ensuring justice, and dismantling transnational criminal networks,” said the IGP.
