Gunmen suspected to be bandits have kidnapped the wife and daughter of Alhaji Muhammad Swasun, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sakpefu community, Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The attack occurred on Sunday night when the armed men stormed the community, shooting indiscriminately to create panic among residents before abducting the victims, identified as Hajiya Fatima and Amina.

According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants operated for several minutes without resistance before whisking away the victims to an unknown location.

Patigi and other parts of Kwara North have, in recent months, recorded repeated incidents of abductions and violent crimes, sparking growing concerns about the deteriorating security situation.

This development comes barely a day after gunmen invaded the Shagbe community in Ifelodun Local Government Area, where they killed some residents and abducted others during an attack on the palace of the Onishagbe of Shagbe. Witnesses said the bandits operated for hours despite repeated distress calls to security agencies, which allegedly went unanswered.

Residents have continued to urge both the Kwara State Government and security operatives to intensify efforts in tackling banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes plaguing rural communities.

The latest abduction further highlights the rising insecurity in Kwara State, with locals lamenting poor security response to life-threatening emergencies.
